Gleaming New Minimals Light Up The Night
Vespera and River were on the trail of a legend.
The Ancient stories had directed them through the spiked mountain peaks surrounding Shadow Veil Pass and into the shrouded, misty forest depths. Lore passed down through the ages held tantalizing hints about Mysterious creatures that could be found deep in the darkness of the woods -- but nobody had seen them in Centuries.
The hints and Clues were confusing, and sometimes even contradictory, but there was one thing all the stories agreed on: The Creatures could only be sought on a pitch-black night. Vespera had waited for a dark, cloudy evening to attempt the search, and now the time was right!
But of course, searching a pitch-dark Forest is no easy feat. It was too dark for River to take flight, so the duo were making their slow and creeping way along the forest floor by lantern light. Vespera was a skilled adventurer, but even still, it had been hours with no real sign of progress. Twisted roots made the footing uncertain, and the branches overhead didn't let even a glimmer of Starlight through.
But then, finally, a faint gleam of light appeared. Vespera pointed it out. "Look, River -- is that the moon?"
There was a faint crescent of light shining in the branches overhead, but it somehow seemed closer than it should be...
River tilted her head curiously, looking at the moon-like Crescent with one eye and then the other. Then she carefully raised her wings and took flight through the blackness, trying to get closer to the light in the Canopy.
When the Raylen approached, the light flashed and moved! The crescent unfolded itself into a pair of moon-shaped wings and flared with light! River flew in a tight circle as the mysterious thing fluttered around her.
"Not the moon!" Vespera exclaimed, delighted. "That's one of the legendary Minimals -- Whisperia!"
The Whisperia's luminous wings cast a warm golden glow, making the nighttime forest feel a lot friendlier. The batlike Minimal squeaked as it circled around River midair, twitching its ears as it listened to the echo to form a picture of its surroundings. The Whisperia's echolocation and the light of its wings would make wayfinding in the dark forest a breeze!
River and the Whisperia exchanged a few more friendly chirps. Then, the Whisperia started fluttering deeper into the woods. River dove back down to the forest floor by Vespera, so that the duo could walk and follow it together.
As they followed the Whisperia's meandering flight, the forest seemed to come to life with light around them. A pale blue Glow revealed even more luminous Minimals hiding in the underbrush and clinging to the trunks of trees. Looking closer, Vespera was able to see that glow came from arcane runes on the shiny carapace of the beetle-like Minimals.
"Glinthex," Vespera identified them, remembering the name from the ancient stories. The insect Minimals started scurrying along the forest floor, following the Whisperia. Together, they looked like a river of blue-glowing runes; a beautiful tide flowing in the Whisperia's wake and guiding River and Vespera along.
The glowing tide guided Vespera and River deeper into the woods on a twisting path. Finally, the crowded tree trunks opened up into a round clearing.
Vespera gasped. The center of the clearing held a perfectly circular pond -- and it was Glowing with rainbow-colored light!
Vespera and River stepped closer to the pond as the Whisperia fluttered overhead and the Glinthex scurried closer to the shore. Gazing down into the water, Vespera could see the source of the rainbow glow. It was a third type of luminous Minimal -- elegant fish with flowing fins that trailed prismatic light in their wake.
"These must be Lumaris," Vespera said to River. "I never imagined they would be so bright. How beautiful!" The fish swam in Mesmerizing patterns, weaving their trails of light in intricate patterns.
Whisperia's golden wings, Glinthex's cool blue runes, and Lumaris' glittering rainbow reflections turned the pitch darkness of the night into an extravaganza of light and color. Vespera and River admired the beautiful sight. All the difficulty and danger of traversing the dark forest was totally worth it for the reward of the legendary Minimals' light!
